Wall Heating: a new form of one of the world's oldest heating systems! For about 2500 years people have known that when walls are heated they release their warmth to the room in the form of cosy radiant heating. The Romans, who developed this method of heating, heated their walls with warm air. ![]() |

In ancient times the heating of rooms by means of radiant heating was commonplace. The walls of the house were warmed by a complex system of heating ducts and then gave off organically healthy radiant heating. In the dark ages and with the decline of Roman culture this heating system and its beneficial warmth for the human body were forgotten. Not until the Eighties in the twentieth century did large surface walls giving off radiant heating experience a renaissance. Variotherm was prominently involved in this process of rediscovery and, in 1991/92 patented its newly developed System-Wall Heating (with active breathing base panel and heat conductive eco-heating plaster). In 1996 Variotherm launched the newly developed Varioclimate-Pipe, an extremely durable 5-layer composite pipe with a roughened surface, and since then this has been at the core of our systems. Our System-Wall Heating was, by the way, one of the first perfectly functioning wall heating systems in the whole of Europe!
It is now in use in thousands of locations (in blocks of flats, family homes, nurseries, schools, hotels, offices and production facilities etc.) and functions to the full satisfaction of those who own and use the buildings (see Reports on reference buildings). Variotherm Modular-Wall Heating made of complete panels for dry construction is also based on the successful principle of pumping warm water through special 5-layer composite pipes and warming the walls in this way. |
