A train station as a dream home

The venerable station building in Lower Austria served as an important coal loading station in the post-war period. What was then used as a reception building, waiting room, or office for station and switch attendants is now a spacious living-dining room, a bedroom, a bathroom, a utility room, and a children's room.

Terminal Station Langau Train Station

Since a train station is not necessarily a place one automatically associates with a cozy living environment, this made the subsequent installation of a contemporary heating system necessary. The residents wanted to plan creatively and decorate freely, so they decided on an underfloor heating system that could be installed on the existing floor afterwards and without effort, optimally adapting to the individual conditions of the existing building.

Low flow temperature = Low heating costs

Also with regard to heating costs, this decision was definitely wise. The underfloor heating is a low temperature system. This means that the heating pipes are laid over the entire floor area and the system can operate with lower flow temperatures than conventional radiators, depending on the outside temperature, and the residents still feel very comfortable.

The reason is: The heat is distributed evenly and over a large area across the entire floor. Every degree lowered in the room saves about 6% in heating costs per year.

Super slim and ultra light

Together with the local installer Gangl, the decision was made for the compact underfloor heating in drywall construction with a low weight of 25 kg/m2 and only 20mm installation height: The low installation height is essential so that, after the gentle renovation, for example, the doors can still be opened. Basically, the subsequent installation is possible in almost all structural situations, as long as you have an even and load-bearing substrate.

For the installer, the installation is extremely simple: The VarioProFile Pipe is individually laid in pre-milled gypsum fiber boards. Finally, the VarioComp filling compound is poured and leveled. After a short drying time (from 24 hours), the floor covering can already be applied.
