An exclusive project in the heart of Vienna: For this, Variotherm even developed its own module plate – with the aim of combining maximum comfort with unconditional energy efficiency and absolute comfort.

Never Change a Winning Team. Anyone who has already lived with surface heating or surface cooling from Variotherm in their own home knows how to appreciate the advantages of pleasant comfort in every season. This is exactly how a Viennese client felt, who wanted to rely on the proven Variotherm quality again for his exclusive attic conversion in an upscale district of Vienna's city center.

The special challenge of the demanding project: Due to the architectural conditions on site, Variotherm developed its own drywall construction module panel, which met all requirements without compromising on aesthetics or comfort.

Precisely fitting and flexible

The now modernly developed attic was added to a classic Gründerzeit Viennese old building. This meant that the existing building fabric had to be handled carefully. The attic conversion itself comprises two floors and consists of both old structures and a modern extension.

The renovation project therefore includes old brick walls combined with drywall construction solutions. This resulted in many light and ventilation outlets, for which individual solutions were needed regarding surface heating and surface cooling. Variotherm therefore designed its own module plate, which made precise installation possible. This achieved maximum flexibility and individuality for the installer and ultimately also for the client.

Pleasant warmth and comfortable cooling

For the builder, it was clear: Only Variotherm can meet the high aesthetic demands and at the same time provide maximum living comfort – both in winter and in summer.

Due to the large glass surfaces in the attic conversion, cooling is essential. Classic energy-intensive air conditioning systems, which also produce unpleasant drafts, were not an option for the builder anyway.

For cooling to function optimally and energy efficiently, around 80% of the surfaces must be activated. The surface heating and cooling systems from Variotherm, which provide pleasant cooling in summer – without drafts – and cozy warmth in winter, are therefore the perfect solution for year-round maximum living comfort.

ModularCeiling, ModularWall and SystemWall

Not only was the attic conversion a complex construction task, but the implementation of the perfect heating and cooling was also a unique project for Variotherm. A total of 49 heating and cooling circuits for the drywall construction, 235m2 ModularCeiling, 20m2 ModularWall, and 40m2 SystemWall for the plastered walls were installed.

The latter was installed in the staircase, which was realized in an existing tower – also an exclusive extra for which Variotherm found an optimal solution. This made it possible for the client to design his two-story attic conversion completely freely, as neither conventional radiators nor air conditioning disrupt the exclusive aesthetics.
