Swim like the ancient Romans in a record-breaking way.
A long breath for long lanes
Roman Schweighofer is an enthusiastic triathlete. For the endurance sport of swimming, cycling, and running, you need not only a good amount of stamina and perseverance but also the right training locations. While Schweighofer can perfectly do his running and cycling rounds in and around Wiesenfeld in nature, the search for long lanes for swim training was arduous. Distant or overbooked swimming pools, where he had to share lanes with others, prompted the 49-year-old to simply build a triathlon-suitable swimming pool himself.
Schweighofer was supported by friends and training colleagues, who bet with him – quite sportingly isotonic – on a crate of beer for the realization of his project. But the triathlete Schweighofer showed considerable endurance. Because from the original training dilemma came not only perfect swimming conditions for his own home but possibly also an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
Top performance thanks to Variotherm
With Variotherm, the trained stove fitter Schweighofer found the right partner to implement his idea. To the left and right of Schweighofer's swimming pool, two self-built tiled stoves heat a buffer tank. The special thing about it is that the two tiled stoves are probably the longest in the world – and thus worthy of an entry in the famous book of world records. In conjunction with the Variotherm solutions, not only are the floor and walls in the swimming hall heated, but also the floor and walls in the 25m long, 5m wide, and 1.4m deep sports pool.
Based on three VarioManifold 5.0, a total of 30 heating circuits with a total of 700 meters of VarioProFile Pipe 16x2 were installed, ensuring absolute peak performance. While in summer a heat pump including photovoltaics keeps the water at the optimal training temperature of a maximum of 24°C, Schweighofer switches on his huge tiled stoves in winter. The principle works like in the bathhouses of the ancient Romans – only at Schweighofer's, everything is controlled with the most modern technologies to be absolutely energy efficient. This energy is felt not only by the builder himself but also by his training colleagues and even a national champion who trains with him.
By the way, the triathletes don't have to shower after training because the water in the sports pool is completely free of chlorine. Enriched with oxygen and phosphate, swimming feels like swimming in a lake. A completely natural project – and truly record-breaking.
