Modern surface cooling ensures pleasant room temperatures – quiet, efficient, and invisible. When properly planned and set, it is absolutely safe. Only if the flow temperature is lowered too much or the control does not work optimally, condensation can occur – especially on hot, humid days.

And this is exactly where the dew point sensor RT495 from Variotherm comes into play. It works like a smoke detector – not because something is constantly burning, but to provide early warning in case of emergency. The sensor reliably detects when the humidity on the cooling surfaces becomes critical and automatically interrupts the cooling. This keeps everything in the green zone – even when conditions are not ideal.

The RT495 is directly integrated into the Variotherm room thermostat and continuously monitors the moisture on the cooling lines. If moisture is detected, the sensor closes the associated thermoelectric actuators – automatically, reliably, and without user intervention. This reliably protects your ceiling and wall cooling from moisture damage, mold formation, or corrosion – especially in rooms with changing climatic conditions or in systems that are often heavily cooled down.

The dew point describes the temperature at which the moisture contained in the air begins to condense – becoming visible as water on surfaces. When the surface temperature falls below this point during cooling, condensation occurs – an effect that one wants to consciously avoid. A dew point sensor precisely measures this threshold and acts as an intelligent protective mechanism before any visible damage can occur.
