Soothingly warm & pleasantly cool
Wall heating is one of the oldest forms of heating. Even the Romans appreciated the soothing warmth of wall heating and used it to heat their homes. In water-based wall heating, the entire wall surface is quickly and evenly heated using a pipe system. In summer, the same system can be used to pleasantly cool the room.
Heating. Cooling. Finished wall.
Perfect for retrofitting during a renovation or anywhere there is no space for screed.
Pleasantly warm thanks to Radiant Heat
With the Variotherm Wall Heating, you feel comfortably warm even at low flow temperatures. The Wall Heating works using Radiant Heat: The infrared waves hit furniture and unheated surfaces at a right angle. They release this energy in the form of heat. Thus, the human is warmed "from within."
We perceive this warmth as particularly natural and pleasant because it essentially works similarly to sunlight.
Another plus: hardly any convection, i.e., no overly dry indoor air in winter.
In summer, approximately 16–20 °C cold water flows through the pipes – keeping the rooms pleasantly cool.
Silent cooling in summer
The wall cooling from Variotherm works using radiant energy and cools the rooms without drafts. With wall heating/cooling, the heat stays outside in the summer. Because: When 16–20 °C cold water flows through the pipes, the wall cools the rooms pleasantly and healthily. And all with the same system! Additionally, wall cooling saves up to 30% in energy costs compared to conventional air conditioning systems.
Since the wall cooling cools through radiation exchange, there are no drafts and no noise. It can also run at night.
The extra: The wall is not obstructed by a disruptive air conditioning unit.

Wall Heating compared to Floor Heating
A wall offers a larger exchange surface for heating and cooling compared to the floor. Thus, a person receives more radiant energy than with floor heating.
For a better explanation, a brief excursion into physics: With radiant heat, the infrared rays are emitted at a right angle to the wall. Thus, they enter into direct radiation exchange with the person. The body warms up "from the inside." With floor heating, the person is only in direct radiation exchange with a smaller percentage of the possible skin surface.
Depending on the need for warmth, a person can choose the distance to the heating surface with wall heating. With floor heating, they are in direct contact with the heating surface.
Another advantage compared to screed floor heating is that wall heating is more responsive. This means it can react more quickly to temperature fluctuations, for example, when the sun warms the room in the afternoon during the transitional period.
Wall combined with floor = 100% comfort!
And another plus: In summer, the wall cools the rooms pleasantly and healthily.
This is how the Wall Heating/Cooling is constructed in Drywall Construction.
The Variotherm Wall Heating/Cooling in Drywall Construction is a flexible panel system and is mounted completely finished on walls and sloped ceilings. The VarioModular-Pipe (aluminium multi-layer composite pipe) is already integrated into the back of the module panel.
Continuously save energy
Save up to 25% on heating costs - with surface heating for floors, walls, and ceilings.
Wall Heating:
A wall heating is a low temperature system. This means: Due to the large-scale installation, this surface heating can operate with low flow temperatures. Depending on the outside temperature, it is usually sufficient to heat the water between 26 and 38 °C. In comparison, conventional radiators require a flow temperature of up to 60 °C. Because: Due to their small size, they only emit heat at specific points.
Another reason why wall heating/cooling saves energy: Thanks to radiant heat, the room air temperature – compared to convection heating – can be lowered by up to 2 °C. Nevertheless, we feel more comfortable in the room than before. Every degree lowered in the room saves about 6% in heating costs per year.
Our tip: Well-insulated ceilings and exterior walls reduce heat loss in the room and save real money.
Wall Cooling:
Those who cool via the wall feel comfortable in the room at around 26 °C due to the radiant exchange. In comparison: Those who cool with an air conditioner must cool the room down to about 23 °C to achieve the same comfort. This way, a water-based surface cooling saves up to 30 percent in energy costs.
Plus: The wall cools free from drafts and noise.
Sloping ceilings? No problem!
The ModularWall Heating/Cooling is a Drywall Construction system with many different panel formats. They are flexible and can be installed on any wall and in sloping ceilings. With a panel thickness of 18 mm, the ModularWall is very space-saving. There is nothing standing in the way of attic conversions. In summer, overheating in the room is also not an issue, as the sloping ceiling can also cool – with one and the same system.
Cozy bathroom.
The Variotherm ModularWall can also be installed in the bathroom afterwards and transforms the bathroom into a wellness oasis. The Wall Heating can be installed in individual rooms afterwards. With Wall Heating, the bathroom becomes even cozier: The Wall Heating in Drywall Construction heats up quickly and warms the bathroom in no time. Fogged mirrors after showering are a thing of the past.
If the radiators in the other rooms are to be retained, Variotherm has the solution: The Pumped VarioManifold or the Pump Microstation connects the new low-temperature system with the existing high-temperature system. The existing pipes of the radiator can be used.

Can furniture be placed in front of a wall heating?
If too much area of a wall heating/cooling is obstructed, it reduces the heating and cooling performance. Smaller shelves or sideboards and a couch are well-suited for wall heating/cooling. A living room wall unit or a large cabinet, for example, would be unsuitable as they take away too much of the heating and cooling surface from the wall heating/cooling. As a rule of thumb: max. 15% obstructed area.
Our tip: Coordinate your room concept and interior design in advance.

Substructures made of wood or metal.
The substructure of the Variotherm ModularWall consists of metal or wood. The basis for the Ceiling Cooling/Heating is the substructure made of wood or metal profiles. The construction can be erected with or without surface cladding or cavity insulation and vapor barriers (vapor barrier).
It should be noted: For wooden substructures, the construction timber used must be sufficiently dry and straight and comply with ÖNORM EN 338 (sorting class C24). For metal substructures, the profiles must be made of soft unalloyed steels with a double-sided zinc coating of at least 100 g/m² according to ÖNORM/DIN 18182-1.
The substructure must be designed for the weight of the ModularPanels (20.5 kg/m²). Additional loads such as ceiling lights, multi-layer cladding, and built-in components must be considered separately.
The ModularPanels
The ecologically tested gypsum fiberboard consists of recycled paper fibers, gypsum, and water (without binders).
The components are pressed into a stable and odor-neutral board under high pressure.
THE VARIOMODULAR-PIPE 11.6 x 1.5
The aluminium multi-layer composite pipe from Variotherm is flexible yet dimensionally stable. The VarioModular-Pipe (aluminium multi-layer composite pipe) has five layers that are bonded together. This guarantees an easily bendable yet dimensionally stable pipe.
The laser-welded pipe is 100% oxygen diffusion-tight. The metal prevents oxygen ingress, making possible sludge formation almost impossible.
The aluminium layer guarantees up to nine times less linear expansion than conventional plastic pipes.
Simple and quick to install
The flexible Variotherm ModularPanels are installed in Drywall Construction and can also be added later. Both a metal and a wooden structure are suitable as substructures.
And this is how it works: Align each panel into position and screw it in place. The joint adhesive at the edge connects the panels 100%.
The VarioModular-Pipe (aluminium multi-layer composite pipe) inserted in the back is connected to the cooling and heating circuit distributor.
The cooling and heating ceiling is ready for plastering and painting.
