The green, green gras

With 200 years in agriculture and almost 60 years in turf production  Zehetbauer Fertigrasen from Marchfeld, Austria, can look back on a long company history. The sustainable, family-run business has renovated its premises and installed an energy-saving surface heating system.

Zehetbauer Fertigrasen, the turf specialist, sows the naturally-grown grass on the light and stoneless arable soil of Marchfeld and cultivates it for one and a half years. The lawn is mowed, watered and fertilised approximately 50 times. Once the roots are strong enough, it is ready to be harvested.

For the correct care of the countless lawns, many agricultural machines are needed, which also require a lot of space and regular maintenance. They are stored in the 450 m² warehouse on the company premises in Probstdorf (Lower Austria), which was partially demolished and rebuilt. For the reconstruction and expansion of the warehouse, the client also completely rethought the heating concept and adapted it to the current state-of-the-art.

The reliable heating system

Installed by Leopold Leberbauer: 3 generations working as the local supplier for sanitary, heating and ventilation technology.

The Variotherm VarioSolid floor heating system is designed to meet the needs and demands in the industrial sector. The robust Variomodular pipe 20x2 laser optimally transfers the heat to the surface. Another benefit is that VarioSolid withstands the heavy burden from various vehicles. They were powerful arguments for the client to lay this floor heating system throughout the warehouse and in the workshop. Leopold Leberbauer installed a total of 2,500 m of heating pipes at a distance of 20 cm. The installer laid the concrete using a concrete mixing pump on a truck. It took approximately 28 days for the concrete to dry and reach full resilience. After 16 days, the concrete was already so resilient that the installation work could be finished. Upon its commissioning, the outside temperature was approx 13 °C – and the day after the heat could already be clearly felt in the warehouse.

The installer removed the old radiators in the offices and also replaced them with a floor heating system.

In the future, Zehetbauer’s employees will be able to get warm in the break rooms after working in the fields and they can also enjoy pleasant temperatures in the changing rooms, in the WCs and washrooms the whole winter long.

Constant energy saving

For a water-filled floor heating, the aluminium multi-layer composite pipes are laid over the whole area of the floor: That means that they use the full area of the room in order to heat it consistently. And: a floor heating system is a low-temperature system and operates within low flow temperatures of between 26 and 38 °C – depending on the outside temperature. This saves energy and money.

A clean solution in both the company’s buildings and also on the fields ensures that many gardens will always have green, green grass.
