Thirty-one keen sportspeople from Variotherm and its community represented VariothermSports at the starting line – from the smallest to the tallest. Proudly displaying our new ‘Run For Good’ shirts, we braved the heat in record temperatures of 31˚C. We weren’t the only ones sweating – the run broke all previous participation records. Hundreds of Variotherm fan clappers at the start and finish lines made for a fantastic atmosphere.
… and preliminary competitions…
1.9km swim, 90.1km cycle, 21.1km run
More than 2100 individual athletes, IronGirls and Iron Kids started in the competition. A total of around 20,000 spectators lined the various courses over the four days of competition. It was a sporting treat to watch reigning European Ironman Champion and former World Champion Faris Al-Sultan go head to head with the world’s current fastest long distance triathlete, Andreas Raelert. The Variotherm competitors, of course, weren’t quite so serious about it. They took it all in their stride – including all the challenges presented by training, logistics, muscle pain, cramps and everything else the event had to offer.
